Quality Tours Are Important to Educators

May 31, 2018

When it comes to education, student travel is significant to educators—and the quality of those trips is at the forefront of teachers’ minds.

In a recent reader survey conducted by SYTA’s Teach & Travel magazine, 45 percent of respondents said they always use a tour operator, and 32 percent noted that it was important that their tour operator is a SYTA member.

When it comes to planning, 54 percent start 10 to 18 months in advance of the trip and 31 percent plan within nine months. Both day trips and in-state trips have increased by 11 percent since 2016, yet 77 percent of respondents still plan trips with at least one night of lodging, and 32 percent visit eight or more attractions per trip.

Safety is the No. 1 issue teachers face when planning trips and is among the top considerations when selecting a tour company. Teachers also struggle with fundraising and trip participation, and are influenced by price and location offerings when selecting a tour company.

And when it comes to the destination, teachers consider price, purpose and location.
