Fueling Creativity and Igniting Minds

Aug 18, 2020

With extraordinary exhibitions and the world’s finest collection of modern and contemporary art, The Museum of Modern Art is dedicated to the conversation between the past and the present, the established and the experimental. With a mission of helping everyone understand, enjoy and use the art of our time, MoMA is a constant source of inspiration for students.

Though MoMA is not yet open to in-person visitors, students and educators can still have enriching and educational experiences through MoMA’s Virtual Views and Coursera materials.

With Virtual Views, students are provided with unprecedented access to MoMA’s exhibitions, curators, artists and artworks. They can examine exhibits and delve into the history behind them with enhanced online visuals accompanied by robust background information. Whether choosing to explore Donald Judd’s groundbreaking work, Dorothea Lange’s iconic Depression-era photography, treasures from MoMA’s film archive, or one-of-a-kind architectural gems in New York City, students will have plenty to learn and contemplate.

The opportunity for creativity and inspiration to blossom from home doesn’t end there.

Educators will find enjoyment and gain new skills thanks to MoMA’s eight free courses and specializations through Coursera. Art & Ideas: Teaching with Themes is designed to help build critical skills that support theme-based teaching practices and build confidence in incorporating modern and contemporary art into interdisciplinary lesson plans. Art & Inquiry: Museum Teaching Strategies for Your Classroom explores how to integrate works of art into your classroom with inquiry-based teaching methods originally developed for in-gallery museum education.
