The Freedom Trail® and Black Heritage Trail® have plenty of opportunities to keep students learning and experiencing Boston’s history remotely.
To serve the public while spending time away from schools, the Freedom Trail® official historic sites, Museum of African American History, and Freedom Trail® Foundation are continuing to provide their existing resources and have created new online distance learning resources to bring history into the homes of students and teachers. The Freedom Trail® and historic official sites are offering over a dozen new online opportunities, starting this month.
Boston’s historic sites are committed to assisting people at home by providing free, engaging materials for learners of all ages, including webseries, virtual tours, teacher and student resources, history blogs, and more. In addition, the Freedom Trail® Foundation’s This Day in History videos provide mini-history lessons 365 days per year and is offering the Hear History: Audio Guide of the Freedom Trail MP3 download, free for a limited time, for at-home enjoyment,
History organizations along Boston’s iconic Freedom Trail and Black Heritage Trail are posting daily about content and activities via their social media channels using Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram—while their individual websites provide constant valuable resources.
The Freedom Trail® Foundation’s new Classrooms Live! offers teachers the opportunity to invite a historian into their virtual classrooms to help students learn about major Revolutionary events such as the Boston Tea Party, Boston Massacre or Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride. The 30-minute program includes an interactive question-and-answer session.
Also available is the Foundation’s Guide to Teaching the American Revolution—a new comprehensive at-home guide for elementary school teachers and parents teaching from home that includes articles, primary sources, activities, and more.
