VIA Rail is Canada’s National Rail Service, with an extensive network that crosses coast-to-coast connecting diverse regions, exciting urban centers and smaller communities. Travel with VIA provides students with a true Canadian experience that includes great onboard service and easy boarding.
Taking a VIA Rail journey is one of the greatest ways for students to experience the magic of Canada’s greatest cities. Once onboard, students can enjoy the high-quality meal and beverage options and along with snacks available for purchase in Economy class. On top of that, VIA Rail’s trains are accessible and comfortable for all ages.
Students can head to Montreal, where there is plenty to do year-round. The Montreal en Lumiere Festival turns the entire city into a giant urban playground for 11 days, where students can check out art, music and even a zipline!
Québec City is also beautiful to explore, especially at the Observatoire de la Capitale. Catching a sunset from the 31st floor lookout is an experience to remember. During the winter months, the sky resembles pink cotton candy against the snow-blanketed city, creating a truly spiritual 360-degree tableau of Québec City.
Ottawa is considered one of the “greenest” cities in Canada, home to its very own working farm at the heart of its metropolis—a perfect place to reconnect to the land. Students can also visit the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum to get their fill.
Students will be inspired by the long legacy of farming and agriculture in this Northern nation, and can admire nearly 15 million specimens of flora and fauna at the Canadian Museum of Nature via entire galleries devoted to fossils, mammals, water, earth and birds. Don’t forget to take students to Parliament Hill or ByWard Market, home to over 600 unique shops and vendors.
