NO. 1 UNITED KINGDOM

Whether you fancy England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, or all four, the United Kingdom is a storied land filled with history—and maybe mystery—worth exploring.

England offers students a chance to soak up highly recognizable landmarks, among them the world’s most famous clock, in London, along with eye-opening diversity in global cuisine and urban culture. A bustling arts and theater scene compliments museums celebrating timeless writers and a legendary detective—a thrill for literary lovers. Students could walk along famous Abbey Road, pictured on one of the most iconic album covers of all time, and marvel at a well-recognized stone relic with an unknown past.

In Scotland, you’ll get the best of both worlds—from the buzzing cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow to the off-the-beaten-path natural beauty of the Highlands and everywhere in between. There’s no better place to hike through towering mountains, explore fairytale-like castles with incredible backstories, and follow in the footsteps of the author who created the world’s most famous wizard.

A two-hour train ride from London, Wales is riddled with opportunities to watch puffins, bottlenose dolphins, osprey and other wildlife. The adventure continues with the world’s fastest zipline and a professional football match in Cardiff, the capital city.

Northern Ireland is the ideal place for history buffs. In Belfast, students with a particular liking for the RMS Titanic could visit where the doomed ship was built and get a sense of how it truly was. Museums offer an escape to the past, where you’ll encounter costumed guides to lead the way.
